This collection consists of 17 series which contain information about the Admissions and Records Office of Brigham Young University. The first 12 series contain correspondence information concerning admissions, technology, international topics, commencement, financial aid and scholarships, the spring/summer program, freshmen, undergraduates, AACRAO, UHEAA, and CES. Much of this correspondence is to and from Erlend D. Peterson, Dean of Admissions and Records. Admissions Photographs mainly contains photographs of ambassadorial visits to BYU and Utah for the Utah Centennial celebration and for the Brigham Young University Ambassadorial Lecture Series. The Commencement series contains minutes, memos, programs, itineraries, and information about Brigham Young University commencements over the years. Video/Audio has many miscellaneous videos, many of which are of past Brigham Young University commencements. It also contains audio tapes of special speakers and meetings. Lastly, transparencies and Slides contains transparencies and slides used in Admissions and Records presentations about the touch-tone registration system, the admissions process, and different technology systems. The last series is an addendum that was added in June 2005.

Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program.
